| This sophisticated new home (architectural design by Newport Collaborative Architects; construction by Parker Thompson, Providence; interior design by Providence’s Nancy Taylor) is also functional from top to bottom. At entry level, the mudroom includes a handy built-in seat—backed with Australian cypress—featuring storage below, simple Shaker pegs for coats and an adjoining laundry (left) with decoratively detailed cabinets. Upstairs a second laundry (right) boasts wall-mounted bars for freshly ironed clothes and generous counters for sorting and folding. Unlike most such hands-on spaces, these two have an abundance of natural light and one even claims stellar water views. The pale palettes—a fine match to the slate floor downstairs and the tile floor above—suggest serenity even on the biggest wash day. |
