Salary Survey 2009

Want to know what your neighbor makes? How about your best friend’s husband? We steamed open hundreds of local paychecks, so you can see how your salary stacks up. And, no doubt, just how overdue you are for a raise.

There’s no question more intriguing (or inappropriate) than ‘How much do you make?’ But let’s face it, we all have a burning desire to know what the other guy (you know the one, crappy economy be damned, who just put an addition on his house and seems to split his time between the East Side and St. Barth’s) is raking in. After all, our pay stub not only records our take-home, it also seems to somehow document our self-worth and what we as a society value (i.e. athletes over educators). Putting all that messy psychological and societal stuff aside, it’s still just plain fun—alright, irresistible—to peek inside hundreds of paychecks, from captains of industry to the captain of the URI research vessel, baristas to bus drivers and even the occasional grave digger. Go ahead, take a look. And one last thing, yes, a pet sitter does, in fact, make that much….
