Ellen Mayer, founder of Providence Tango, lives a life filled with rhythm and music. And as if that weren’t enough to make us desk slaves envious (recall, please, philosopher Nietzsche’s wisdom: “…we should consider every day lost on which we have not danced…”), this multi-talented woman also designs jewelry, sews and paints.

Novel Ideas

The amount of creativity contained within these walls is immeasurable. Owners Sam White and Gillian Kiley are poets and writers. In addition, White is an illustrator and Kiley teaches, too. But it doesn’t stop there. White is also a designer and director of Woolly Fair, an annual event at Providence’s Monohasset Mill. At the moment, he’s busy putting together “5 Buses,” a three-day event in July featuring art, music and renewable power.
