It’s that time of year again when Mother Nature starts to show her generous side, giving us her bounty—fresh, green vegetables and bright, juicy fruit—to bring to our tables. Rhode Island’s farmers’ markets are a showcase for such earthly delights, as well as grass-fed beef and pork, seafood, cheese and bread, almost anything you need to turn one stop at the market into dinner, and far fresher than anything you can find at a grocery store. And the markets in Rhode Island are much more than a few rustic stands hawking corn and tomatoes; locals gather weekly to meet friends, listen to live music and peruse artisan wares. Here is a guide to what you can expect at some of our favorites, plus some helpful tips on getting around once you get there, so that wherever you live, you can eat fresh and give your community spirit some oomph in the process.
