Before You Go

Look for a specialist who is board-certified to treat the target area. You can check your doctor’s certification with the American Board of Medical Specialties by visiting abms.org.
  • Ask your doctor how often he or she performs the procedure and request before and after photos of other patients.
  • Take notice of how you are treated by the office staff for a good indicator of how you will be treated should any complications arise.
  •  Schedule a consultation separately from your first appointment to avoid an impulse buy. Ask what kind of follow-up is offered if you’re not happy with the initial results.
  • With many new products flooding the market, know the track record of the treatment. A good filler, for example, should have at least a five-year history of safety data.
  • Be wary of one-size-fits-all approaches. A specialist will offer a range of treatments to address the needs of each individual.
