Casey Farm l Saunderstown, 295-1030, historicnewengland.org. The 300-acre farm, owned by Historic New England, is part of a Community Supported Agriculture program that produces organically grown herbs, flowers and vegetables. Their noteworthy annual plant sale is Mother’s Day weekend. May 10 and 11.

Rhode Island Wild Plant Society l Kingston, 789-7497, riwps.org.  Members—and they’re all passionate gardeners— donate plants, including many native specimens. The sale (9 a.m. to noon) includes a silent auction of rare and collectible plants. June 7. 

Schartner Farms l Exeter, 294-2044. Well-known Rhode Island auctioneer Bill Spicer presides over an annual early September auction. Plants are sold in lots, for example, two trees and a shrub. Or, three trees. Prices generally stay below retail. Call for dates.

Southside Community Land Trust
l Providence, 273-9419, southsideclt.org. One of the most popular green events in the state and celebrating its sixteenth anniversary this year. Organically grown vegetables, heirloom plants and unique perennials, all at affordable costs. Gardeners around the state donate plants in addition to the ones the organization raises. Tip: If you want first dibs, join SCLT. Members are allowed entry one hour early. May 17 and 18.

Tranquil Lake Nursery l Rehoboth, 508-252-4002, tranquil-lake.com. What an opportunity to load up on lilies! Most are in bloom, so you can easily coordinate them with your existing palette. The Open House and Summer Garden Festival also includes educational programs with well-known landscape designers including Warren Leach, co-owner of the nursery. July 19.

University of Rhode Island
l East Farm, 874-2900, uri.edu/cels/ceoc. The College of the Environment and Life Sciences includes greenhouses and display gardens open to the public. Call for information about their annual spring festival and plant sale.
