Rhode Islanders Run Race in Costumes
If you were in Providence on Sunday afternoon, you may have seen young men racing down the street in diapers, baby bonnets and pacifiers. No, they did not escape from the Rhode Island Hospital maternity ward, they were taking part in a fun run for the CVS Caremark Inspirational 3K.
There were also superheroes, pirates, robots and cavemen. Where's Waldo? We spotted the red-striped spectacled character nearly 30 times amongst the crowd. There also were 101 dalmatians mixed into the mob scene.
The costumes were all a part of the downtown road race for local high school students, who were invited to form teams of runners and dress in costume to earn $500 and $750 cash grants from Tufts Health Plan and new track uniforms for their schools. The fun run took place after the 5K, for which more than 4,000 participants crossed the finish line.
Here are some photos documenting the race.
