Wanted: Donations for Funky Fashion Show
So here it is, the last day of September already (already!! gah) and it's time to look ahead. In a couple of weeks, Groundwork Providence - a really great local educational non-profit - will be hosting a super-cool fashion show. It's called Runway Earth 8: Halloween Edition (you know it's cool just from the name) and it'll bring lots of willowy local models, all dressed up in one-of-a-kind outfits made from recycled materials, to the new MET cafe and bar in Pawtucket.
RISD types are, of course, heavily involved, and there'll be local art and a silent auction too.
Groundwork is still gathering goodies for said auction, and they need help. Anything covetable, be it an item, gift certificate or event, is welcome. So far, Trinity Rep has ponied up four vouchers for season tickets (hope I win that one!), Camille's is giving up a $100 gift certificate, Frog & Toad and Kreatelier are donating fun stuff, and there are various other items of interest, including luscious jewelry, a Newport mansion tour and an ever-welcome electric toothbrush.
So come on - give em a call and offer something up! After all, don't you want to know how much your gift will end up getting in the auction? Could be the start of that new career in T-shirt embroidery you've been contemplating!
Runway Earth runs 6:30-8:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 14, at the MET, in the same building as the Wintertime Farmer's Market, just on the northern side of the Prov/Bucket line. I'm putting it in my calendar now, in the hope that once there, I'll seem thinner and sexier purely by association.
