Back To School For The Rest Of Us

Sep 7, 2010 - 10:30 AM

So our Schools issue is out (and I went on TV this morning to promote it, then couldn't figure out where the camera was - aargh!) but for all of us who've aged out of conventional education, September still gets those mind-expanding juices flowing. That's why today's Groupon caught my eye.
For all of you who haven't signed up yet, Groupon is a company that offers group coupons each day. Sign up for the Rhode Island version and you'll get a chance, each day, to consider awesomely diverse deals, from half price food at Kabob and Curry to discount Tennis Hall of Fame membership. Today's is one of the best yet: for $50, you get $200 toward continuing education programs at Brown. Since plenty of the Brown course offerings don't cost much more than $200 - and the most expensive are twice that - this represents a pretty great discount. The deal is on; apparently I wasn't the only person to think it was a good un, because enough people had signed on by 9 a.m. to meet Brown's minimum. Anyone interested has until midnight tonight to take the plunge. If you want to speak Spanish or Arabic; learn how to write film reviews; get the low down on environmental conservation in Rhode Island; work with online social networks or simply study Mesopotamian creation myths, here's your chance to do it on the cheap. Back to school, people!
