My New Cubicle

Sep 29, 2009 - 12:32 PM

Filing, faxing, copies, phonecalls, and errands? I don't think so! Not here at Rhode Island Monthly. I am the new editorial intern. Courtesy Pippa Jack and her Craigslist-ing back in 2008, it is finally official. Might I add that I did virtually force Pippa beyond her control to hire me, emailing her more frequently than I emailed my mother. All the persistence paid off since I finally have my dream internship for my senior year of college.

Upon arrival, I felt the anxious buzzing and excitement as we spoke of the moving to Allens Avenue, the removal of the paintings and photos on the walls, and the packing of cubicles and offices. I was introduced to the inviting, energetic and comforting staff and have yet to remember everyone's names!  I'll keep trying. The staff has me motivated to write, get the job done, and make each issue count. I think I've sat here and flipped through more RI Monthly's than I have of Vogue - which is saying a whole lot.

A New Jersey native, studying Communications at URI, I have found that the magazine has so far taught me the many values of this one of a kind state. Rhode Island certainly has gone far beyond a good first impression, from breathtaking ocean and beaches to fine dining and activities. Thanks to the staff for your warm welcomes. And an especially big thanks to Courtney Anderson, my supervisor, who has put up with all my questions and inquiries with the biggest, kindest smile on her face. I cannot wait to keep learning and working here; I am having a fantastic first couple of weeks!
