Clinging to Summer
This weekend marks summer’s official end (although the chill in the air the past few evenings seems to indicate that it’s already passed) and I’m feeling somewhat conflicted. Like Nicole lamented earlier this week, I am totally looking forward to the season of warm wool sweaters and pies. But I also hate that I have to wait almost ten months to have another New England beach day.
But I’m not going to even allow myself to think about fall (too much) until this weekend of foreseen sunny skies and mild temps is over. If you’re like me and are looking for something to do to take your mind off of the impending cooler weather, I have the perfect suggestion. Sunday night, the RI Philharmonic is playing at Independence Park in Bristol at 7 p.m. There’ll be fireworks at the end and a sampling of patriotic and classical music. Bring lawn chairs, a blanket, a picnic dinner, and pretend for a few more hours that summer’s neverending.
