Pedal Power

May 20, 2010 - 01:47 PM

If you've ever wondered what it would be like to ride your bike to work, tomorrow's the day to do it. Not only is the forecast looking fabulous (74 and sunny), but lots of festivities are going on as part of Providence's Bike-to-Work Day. A morning program from 6:30-9 a.m. at the World War I monument includes free breakfast and coffee, speakers, raffles and demos. Even more fun is scheduled in the afternoon: From 4-6:30, there will be more demos, plus food and drinks from United BBQ and a performance by the spirited What Cheer? Brigade.

If that doesn't motivate you, how about this? The RIDOT estimates that average cost of maintaining a vehicle is $3,000 a year, versus just $50-$100 for a bike.
