Gallery Night: Improv Edition
The winter blues are finally setting in, and not because it dusted enough to cover the pavement last night. This Thursday marks the second month of Gallery Night Providence’s winter hiatus.
Even southern Rhode Island’s art groupies couldn’t get their fix last week; Gallery Night Newport took a break in January as well. But they’ll have their night of art back next month. We northerners have to wait until March to bask in the warmth, welcome and free wine of Providence’s great galleries. That’s just too long.
While we might not be bopping around the city in a school bus bulging with Big Nazo puppets, here’s our scheme to fill our Gallery Night void this Thursday:
6 p.m.: Start off at the Bannister Gallery at Rhode Island College for the opening night of “Graphics in Korea,” an exhibition where traditional Korean culture melds with Western media. 600 Mt. Pleasant Ave., Providence
7 p.m.: Head over to Royal Gallery on Federal Hill for “Mosiac,” an exhibition of the best works of the collection in a variety of media. 298 Atwells Ave., Providence
8 p.m.: Finish at RISD Museum with Nancy Chunn’s “Chicken Little and the Culture of Fear” and contemporary British artist Jeremy Deller’s “Manchester Tracks.” RISD Museum, 224 Benefit St., Providence
If you’re due for a little nosh, stop by one of the nearby restaurants participating in Providence Restaurant Week: Parkside Rotisserie, Hemenway's, New Rivers and Mill’s Tavern.
