New York Fashion Week Recap
While many of us are just starting to dream about spring—think skirts without tights and flowy dresses—for many fashionistas, all eyes were on fall this past week for New York Fashion Week. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to go this season, though I have to say I didn't miss the long waits for shows to start and trying to look cute in usually ice-cold temperatures. Besides, nowadays you can see the shows almost instantly from the safety of home!
Here's a re-cap of some of my favorite trends and looks, and the best part is that all of the featured designers are carried at local stores like Zuzu's Petals in Cranston, East Greenwich and Providence; Kristina Richards in Cranston and Newport; Clover in Providence; and Michael Hayes in Newport. I'll cross my fingers that they'll have some of my favorite pieces of the season.
Here are some trends for fall 2012:
Sheer accents. Whether it’s a hint of leg, collarbone or arm, sheer fabrics feel luxurious, sophisticated and sexy!
Left to right: Diane von Furstenberg, Nicole Miller, Rebecca Taylor and Tory Burch
Red was everywhere, and I mean everywhere. Red coats, red skirts and red dresses. If you want to stand out in a crowd, this trend is for you.
Left to right: Alice and Olivia, Diane von Furstenberg, Elizabeth and James and Tory Burch.
Longer lengths. Dresses and skirts seemed to fall at the knee or even longer, creating a more ladylike silhouette. If you love your legs, don’t fret though, there were lots of body-conscious pencil skirts and dresses in this length, too.
Left to right: Elizabeth and James, Rebecca Taylor, Rebecca Taylor and Tibi.
Patterns. From color blocking and florals to more psychedelic patterns, mix and match to your heart’s delight!
Left to right: BCBG, Elizabeth and James, Tibi and Tory Burch.
And finally a few of my favorite looks are below. You'll definitely see me in these this fall!
Left to right: BCBG, Elizabeth and James, Milly and Rebecca Taylor.
