Beer Feasts: Brews and Food Pairings
The Mooring Seafood Kitchen and Bar
Sam Adams Brewery will host two four-course dinners at The Mooring on Tues., Feb. 21 and Wed., Feb. 22 as part of the Newport Winter Festival. Each course will be paired with a different brew. The evening will begin with hors d'oeuvres, including Sam Adams battered pickled chicken, cornmeal fried oysters and little Cuban sandwiches, all served with Sam Adams Light and Sam Adams Coastal Wheat. Dinner includes a salad of winter greens, baby shrimp, orange and sunflower seeds, paired with the Alpine Spring Lager. A dish of bangers and hash will follow, complemented by the Whitewater IPA. The entree will feature grilled flank steak with leek bread pudding, paired with Sam Adams Boston Lager. Dessert will be a coconut-pineapple upside down cake paired with Griffin's Barley Wine.

Newport Storm
Newport Storm Brewery is hosting two beer and cheese tastings at the brewery on Feb. 18 and Feb. 25, as part of the Newport Winter Festival. Five different Newport Storm beers will be paired with five local Narragansett Creamery cheeses. They will also hold a rum-infused beer dinner at the Officer's Club on Feb. 24. They are still working on the menu, but it will include a cask of the Winter Ale (a delicious porter) that was aged for months in a Thomas Tew Rum barrel.

The Ocean House
The Ocean House in Watch Hill is offering a full day of craft beer appreciation, led by food forager Jan Faust Dane on Sat., Feb. 25. Spend the morning at the recently awarded AAA Five Diamond-rated property learning the basics of home brewing in a hands-on demo joined by Ocean State Hops, then following lunch, board a shuttle and head to Cottrell Brewery, a craft brewery in Pawcatuck, Conn., for an afternoon tour. Return to the Ocean House for dinner at Seasons and enjoy a four-course tasting menu featuring special guest Matt Jennings of Farmstead cheese shop that emphasizes the delights of beer and cheese together.
