Apparently we're all pretty good-looking
Forget the winter blues! You're actually living in one of the top-10 most attractive states, so chances are you're attractive too! Doesn't that feel better?
No, me neither, but according to a new ranking by the Daily Beast, Rhode Island is the 10th most attractive state in the nation (or at least, Amy Diaz wins a lot of pageants. Go Amy!).
It seems unlikely, but the Beast rounded up fluffy factoids to make its case, from the hometowns of fashion models and 10 years' worth of People's "Sexiest Men Alive" issue winners, to a decade of Miss America and Miss USA pageant results, plus general data about health and fitness in each state. DC came first, Hawaii second, and California third, while the Northeast makes a good showing with Connecticut coming fourth and New York and Massachusetts sixth and seventh. That's right, Massachusetts beat us. But we triumph over pretty much all the other parts of the country (with the exception, of course, of Florida, which perhaps comes fifth only because so many Rhode Islanders call it their winter home - the smart ones, anyway).
Places with really cold winters tend to come in low, says the Beast, which I would have thought meant us but actually means that North Dakota comes in at 51, South Dakota at 50, and Vermont at 43. So just remember: even though it's so cold my friend snapped her car door handle off the other evening, it could be much, much worse.
