2012-08-20PPAC’s Jersey Boys Feels Like the Real ThingThe lights dim, and all eyes are fixed on a standard-issue industrial set. Familiar bars boom over the loudspeaker. I’m certain of what’s coming next: “Oh what a night, late December back in ’63….” Just when I think the story of the Four Seasons will fall neatly at my feet — you know the tale: a group of gritty Jersey boys dodge run-ins with the mob and (more) stints in jail to form one of the best-selling bands of all time — the stage is bombarded by a co-ed group clad in jean shorts, neon tees and sneakers. They’re singing, but their words are muffled and their voices echo gaudily in PPAC’s auditorium. After a moment, I realize they’re not singing in English.
