2012-04-27Claudine Schneider Returns to RIThe only woman Rhode Islanders have elected to represent them in Washington D.C. is returning to the state to speak at a reception to honor female political leaders. Former U.S. Representative Claudine Schneider will receive the Isabelle Ahearn O'Neill award for female officeholders at the YWCA Northern Rhode Island's fourth annual celebration honoring female leaders. Schneider, who now lives in Colorado, represented Rhode Island's second district as a Republican congresswoman from 1981 until 1991. The event is scheduled to take place Monday, April 30 at Bryant University. "We're just about encouraging women to run for office to make sure that women's voices are heard, especially now," said Deborah Perry, chief executive officer of the YWCA... There are fifteen tours to choose from on Saturday, May 5, ranging from cycling along the East Bay Bike Path and an adult treasure hunt with GPS, to tours of the hidden African-American history of College Hill and Providence’s new Independence Trail.
